Mission Local Background
Mission Local is the local news website for San Francisco’s Mission district covering everything from business openings to education to local events and more. What started as a neighborhood news project at UC Berkeley’s Journalism School in 1998 has grown and expanded as its own entity with over 400K viewers each month.
Walsh Creative’s new website for Mission Local
With the continually growing readership on Mission Local’s website, the editors decided on a revamp to keep up. Walsh Creative dug in and made their site fully responsive to eliminate the need for plugins and a separate mobile site. Migrating the site from Google DFP to Broadstreet XPRESS as their adserver makes ad set up faster and billing much easier. Reporting is automatically emailed and easily understandable which gives the editors much more time to focus on website content.
Mission Local’s new website still has the same streamlined look, but now pulls more information to the main page making it easier for readers to connect with the site. Links to social pages and a search box are now front and center along with a link to “Snaps from the Community” which brings you to a gallery of pictures submitted by locals. All in all, Mission Local’s newly enhanced website keeps the spirit of the original project alive while making it much easier for the editors to maintain and the subscribers to enjoy.
