Food is often the centerpiece in most occasions and is usually given the majority of thought when planning any event, big or small. So how food is showcased online can often aid in your decision whether or not to visit a restaurant, make a recipe, or even purchase a cookbook. When Deb Smith owner of Jersey Bites approached Walsh Creative about designing a website for her latest book the Jersey Shore Cookbook, we knew we had to place a lot of emphasis on high definition pictures that define the essence of both the Jersey Shore and its delicious food.
The Jersey Shore Cookbook’s website is a bold mix of colorful pictures and warm hearted text that makes the user feel at home while scrolling through each page. Keeping the theme consistent within the book’s pages and the website’s features is an aspect we feel is important. We used a similar complementary color palate as used on the cookbook’s cover. Light blues and contrasting orange tones help give the sophisticated, yet approachable feel to the website as we get from flipping through the cookbook’s pages.
Viewing a calendar of book signing events across New Jersey is easily done on the Events page. We also added an “Off the Page” section that gives readers an even more personal look into the making of the Jersey Shore Cookbook. Moving your mouse over each picture reveals a brief description of each shot to further enhance the cookbook’s feel.
